Robert SeaborneRobert Seaborne - Avancemos Instructor

I have taught English as a Second Language at Glendale Community College since 2017. I have had the pleasure of teaching the literacy level and level 2 classes. I understand that learning English is an important step in the lives of our students for many reasons, so I am honored to be part of the experience. Thanks to the diversity of our student population, I feel fortunate not only to teach at GCC but to learn from the new groups of students that I meet each semester.

Monica ZamoraMonica Zamora - Avancemos Instructor

I have been teaching ESL since 2012. I earned a master's in Linguistics/TESOL from CSUN.

As an immigrant from Mexico, I know the struggle of not being able to communicate with others due to cultural and language barriers. My goal in becoming an ESL instructor was to help others become confident enough in their English abilities to improve their quality of life. I believe my motivation is driven by the smiles on my students' faces as they learn new grammar, a new word, or a pronunciation technique.

I hope to continue working towards a doctorate degree in English literature. Inspired by my uncle and sister, I too hope to write my own book of short stories that my students can enjoy.

Andres CruzAndres Cruz - Avancemos Coordinator

I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics, with a minor in Central American Studies, in 2008 and a Master's Degree in TESOL in 2010. I am currently working on a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at CSUN. I have been teaching ESL since 2008. I have been serving as the Avancemos coordinator since 2017.

One of my mail goals is to use pedagogy as a tool to close equity gaps, increase diversity and inclusion, and stand up for justice for disenfranchised communities.

Suzanne SchwarzSuzanne Schwarz - Avancemos Instructor

I earned my Master's in Education from City College in New York with a major in TESOL. I have been teaching English as a Second Language since 2004. I have taught English to adult learners throughout the US and abroad.

I enjoy being able to help students learn and grow as they continue to develop their English skills. The diversity of students at Glendale brings wonderful energy to the classroom and I'm honored to be a part of the GCC community.

While I'm not teaching, you might find me on a yoga mat, hiking, or exploring the delicious restaurants of Los Angeles.

Tatevik AtalyanTatevik Atalyan - Teacher's Aide and ESL Tutor

I'm the morning instructional aide. I have my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Philology, in the field of Spanish language and literature. Spanish has been my passion since childhood. As I was told, I was making up different words in Spanish and was trying to teach them to others.

As an instructional aide who has experienced the difficulties of learning a new language, I enter the classroom with the goal to help instructors make the class highly effective for students and help students in the learning process.

I like to study languages, examine their structures, similarities and differences, and I love to travel! I think learning languages and discovering new things are really fun. So, vamos a learn English con paciencia and tener fun!
